The parcel sort centres are being set up to sort a significant proportion of the parcels Royal Mail handles before they are distributed around the UK and delivered to the door by Royal Mail’s postmen and women.

Approximately 4,000 seasonal workers across the 10 sites will support Royal Mail’s permanent 124,000 postmen and women who sort and deliver the mail all year round, including Christmas which is the busiest time of the year for the postal service.

This is the fourth year that Royal Mail has opened a dedicated network of parcel sort centres. The use of additional temporary parcel sort centres is now an integral part of Royal Mail’s substantial financial commitment in additional resources at Christmas operation to handle the festive mail bag.

The centres are opening on a phased basis from 3rd November. Royal Mail has set up a dedicated website for people to apply for the positions – www.royalmailgroup.com/xmasjobs
