Aerospace, transport and defence will be the initial focus for a new South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) supported Co-operative, set up to match the specialist skills of small UK manufacturing businesses with the needs of Original Equipment Manufacturers.
The co-operative, launched by Cranfield University’s newly established Operations Excellence Institute (OEI), will be open to UK based SMEs providing design, production or through-life support for engineering systems.
Dr Howard Lightfoot, Chief Executive of the Co-operative and Institute Manager at the Operations Excellence Institute, said: “We are delighted to be launching this dedicated manufacturing co-operative, which will enable us to work with UK businesses to innovate the supply chain and ensure equipment manufacturers can access the specialist skills they require.”
SEMLEP Chief Executive Charles Mouawad, who will act as the Co-operative Chair, added: “This co-operative will support SMEs and enable these businesses to secure major procurement opportunities, a true market solution for our supply chain.”
The Manufacturing Co-operative is a £750,000 funded activity and part of the newly established Operations Excellence Institute (OEI) at Cranfield University. There will be a joining fee of £100 and an annual membership fee of £350.
